Dow Rises on Stable Inflation News, Nasdaq Falls

NEW YORK -- U.S. blue-chips rose Tuesday, driving the Dow industrials to close at a record as signs of stabilizing inflation raised the prospect of lower interest rates, boosting the outlook for business investment.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 37.63 points, or 0.28 percent, at 13,384.41. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 1.88 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,501.27. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 21.15 points, or 0.83 percent, at 2,525.29.
